  • Parking moans unjustified claim parents

    Emily Cole

    15 May 2008

PARENTS have this week hit back at complaints over parking outside an Olton school.
In last week's Observer concerned mum Lou Bragg and another parent who wished to remain anonymous voiced their concern over a decision to prevent cars parking outside Langley Primary School on St. Bernard's Road.
But other parents have come forward claiming that their complaints do not represent those of parents at the school as a whole.
Liz Leng said that parking along the road often results in delays and hold-ups, with many drivers blocking private driveways, bus stops and the school crossing.
She added: "On a number of occasions inconsiderate parking has meant that parents with double buggies cannot pass, parents with single buggies are forced to allow their very young children to walk unsupervised and people with disability scooters are unable to pass and are forced out into the road.
"The school seeks to be a good neighbour to residents of St Bernard's Road whilst at the same time ensuring a safe environment for children attending the school."
Tracy Sharma said: "The flow of traffic is most definitely obstructed and it is only due to the safe crossing provided by the lollipop man that there has been no accident to date."
Another parent, who wished to remain anonymous, said that they fully supported the school, police, council and local residents in what they were trying to achieve as it was principally for the safety of the school's children.
"I often walk to collect my children from the school and before the police visit could not pass the many cars with my pushchair," they added.
"The recent involvement by the police has had a great impact all round and it is now safer for road and path users."
