  • Message in a bottle

    Jo Sykes

    15 May 2008

BOSSES at Solihull NHS Care Trust are taking an unusual approach to an emergency information scheme for borough pensioners.
On Monday (April 28) the Care Trust launched its 'Message in a Bottle' initiative for everyone over 65 living in Solihull. The scheme which will see 37,000 bottles distributed to all the over 65’s in the borough, with the help of the Lion’s Club and Ryan’s Removals, hopes to make important medical and personal information easier to get hold of by emergency services.
Once the form has been completed, the bottle is placed in the fridge and a sticker placed on the front door so that if the emergency services are ever needed they will know where to find this important information.
The bottles hold all up-to-date information about a persons current medication and medical needs as well as personal information about them that might need to be taken into account if they are taken ill.
Helen Strang, AgeSafe Co-ordinator said: “When an elderly person is taken ill, they are generally more concerned about who is going to look after their pet than about themselves. The information made available to emergency services can save valuable time when treatment is needed in a critical situation. Even if you do not have an illness this will help the emergency services.”
