PARENTS protesting against proposed changes to admissions at Tudor Grange Academy have handed in a petition.

Over 1,000 people signed the petition urging the school to rethink its plans to give priority to new pupils from two primary schools over those in the catchment area.

The parents handed over the petition, containing 1,364 signatures, to headteacher Jennifer Bexon-Smith’s PA at the school gate on Thursday.

It was the final day for people to have their say on the proposals which could come into force from 2014.

The governors will consider all the comments received and a decision will be published on April 15.

Kathy Kay, one of the parents involved in the petition, said: “We would like to thank Tudor Grange Academy for their patience in receiving the petition, acknowledging that we understand and agree with their decision on not letting us onto school grounds, as it may have been disruptive for pupils.

“We hope that the petition has now reached the senior management team and that they consider it as representative of the strength of feeling within the community.

“We hope its content will be carefully considered by the governors and advisory members.

“We would also like to add that even though the petition has now been handed in, members of the community are still signing the online petition in support of our opposition.”
