A MAN has admitted causing the death of an 80-year-old woman in a hit and run.

Alice Lucas was critically injured when she was hit by a Vauxhall Astra as she crossed Coventry Road, in Yardley, on Saturday (February 16).

The pensioner, who lived in Sheldon, suffered multiple injuries and died a short time later.

Following the collision, the driver of the blue car failed to stop and a police hunt for the vehicle, and its driver, was launched.

Later on Saturday the Vauxhall was found dumped in Olton.

Nathaniel Teague attended a police station in Birmingham that night and was arrested on suspicion of causing Mrs Lucas' death.

The 26-year-old was charged and appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court on Monday (February 18) where he pleaded guilty to all charges, including causing death by dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking, causing death by driving a vehicle without a licence, driving without insurance, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident.

Teague was remanded in custody until March 18 when he shall appear before Birmingham Crown Court to be sentenced.
