MRHA West Midlands Premier
ALEX Grafton hit a hat-trick to help Hampton to a 14th win of the season on Saturday as they cemented their position at the top of the table.
Missing top scorer Dafydd Bowles and captain Scott Powell, the remainder of the squad knew it was time to pull together and prove their collective ability, and they did so with a solid winning performance.
Grafton took the plaudits with his treble as he took his tally to 20 for the season whilst Chris Popplewell proved that last week’s goal was no fluke, again finding himself in the right place at the right team to beat the keeper.
Although Hampton were a little scrappy at times, they remained determined and took another step towards promotion.
THERE was a 5-4 defeat for the 2nds against Barton but better news for the 3rds as they overcame Streetly 4-3 thanks to goals from Adie Baker (2) and Steve Bradley (2).
Simon Ashton also grabbed a brace as the 4ths went down 5-3 against Warwick 5ths, David Lloyd was also on target.
EMILY Hodge grabbed a consolation goal as Hampton Ladies fell to a heavy 9-1 defeat against Shrewsbury.
Having let the first goal in early in the game, Hampton conceded at regular intervals after that but credit also goes to Shrewsbury for scoring some well worked goals.
Hampton’s strike came after good work from Annabel Knight allowed her to fire in a pinpoint cross for Emily Hodge to coolly sweep past the keeper.
The 2nds were also well beaten, going down 6-0 against Olton 3rds.
