A DATE has been announced for this year's Shirley Carnival.
The event will take place on Saturday, July 13 at Shirley Park.
Organisers Shirley Lions were forced to postpone last year's carnival due to the weather and it eventually took place in September.
Carnival Chairman, Lion Phil Rippington said: “In view of the uncertainty concerning Solihull Carnival, the change of organisers for the Donkey Derby and the ongoing Parkgate development there have been some unfounded rumours concerning Shirley Carnival.
“I appreciate that Shirley Carnival had to be moved from July to September last year in view of the wet weather but nothing has changed and Shirley Carnival will be going ahead as it does every year.”
The Lions are also appealing for businesses across the borough to lend them a helping hand with sponsorship to make the town’s annual carnival bigger and better than ever.
Some businesses have already stepped up to help but organisers say more funds are needed.
Mr Rippington said: “Shirley Lions have been organising Shirley Carnival for over 35 years and unfortunately the costs incurred in staging the event get greater and greater each year.
“Without the help of local businesses we simply could not run the event.”
