Damage to the lorry after it crashed into a wall. (s)
A WOMAN whose house was badly damaged when a car crashed into it last year is calling for action to be taken to stop lorries travelling through the village.
Molly Bartlett from Hampton in Arden is angry about the number of lorries travelling through the village on the B4102.
Her calls come after a lorry crashed into the wall around the churchyard and hit a telegraph pole that had wires attached to a house which caused tiles to fall from the roof onto the pavement.
No-one was injured but Mrs Bartlett believes it was a close call and it was lucky no pedestrians were walking there at the time.
She told the Observer: "Why do lorries come through here - it's not a major road.
"I contacted Solihull Council and sent photos to them as there have been several accidents and I believe it should be a restricted road.
"They put flashing warning signs up after the car crashed into my house last year and I think it's made a bit of difference, but why are lorries coming through here?"
Coun Ted Richards, the council's for transport and highways, said they carried out a number of improvements to the road after the car crashed into Mrs Bartlett's house and they will continue to monitor the situation.
He said: "Whilst we appreciate residents' concerns we would point out that Solihull Road, the High Street and Meriden Road all form part of the classified road network and provide valuable access to the local area around Hampton-in-Arden.
"Therefore, even if a Traffic Regulation Order was to be introduced to prevent HGVs from using the B4102 within the area, access would still need to be maintained."
Damage to the churchyard wall can clearly be seen. (s)
