SOLIHULL Arden Ladies find themselves sitting second in the Warwickshire Winter Sqaush League table at the midway stage despite suffering a 3-2 defeat at Edgbaston Priory in their latest outing.

They started 1-0 ahead at Edgbaston due to the hosts onlt being able to name four players and they soon went further clear as Jessica Ireland eased past Becca Smolinska 3-0.

Helen O'Hara gave the hosts new hope with a 3-1 victory against Arden's Jane Armstrong. The first two rubbers were shared but Helen proved too strong in the final two to secure Edgbaston's first victory of the evening.

Ann Frew was next on court for the visitors against Ali Hollington and it turned out to be the match of the night.

Ann's tactics were perfect in the first game which she won 9-6 but as Ali began to read her game she got herself level, winning the next 10-8.

A 9-4 victory in the third put Ali one away from victory before a titanic battle ensued in the fourth match which ultimately went Ali's way 10-8.

That meant it all went down to the fifth rubber between Arden's Rachel Woolford and Edgbaston's Sarah Robertson.

Rachel had never lost against Sarah but found her too strong on this occasion, soon finding herself 2-0 down before the hosts were left to celebrating when the third match went their way as well.
