LAST year’s Grand National winner and the 2010 Cheltenham Gold Cup champion will be guests of honour at Warwick Racecourse on Saturday as its 2013 season gets off to a flying start.
Indeed, the day’s feature race, the Betfred Classic Chase, is renowned as a trial for Aintree so there is the very real prospect of spotting another future champion in the making.
The Classic Chase is one of Warwick’s most esteemed racing events and attracts the country’s top jockeys and trainers.
Neptune Collonges is now globally famous because of the closest ever finish in last year’s Grand National and he is also only the third ever grey to win the race. He will be parading between the second and third race.
Meanwhile, another racing star, Imperial Commander - winner of 2010 Cheltenham Gold Cup – will be on show cantering on the track at 12.10pm before the racing starts.
But if that was not enough then there’s also another six races taking place, making it a steeplechase spectacular.
Warwick Racecourse general manager Huw Williams said: “It’s going to be an outstanding afternoon of exciting racing and a great curtain raiser to our 2013 season.
"There’s also plenty happening in between the turf action, including an appearance by Neptune Collognes, so it promises to be a fabulous afternoon out for all looking to spend an enjoyable Saturday at the races.”
As well as the fast and frenetic racing, other highlights throughout the afternoon include live music from local acoustic guitarist Matt Bate, face painting for children and other activities.
Meanwhile, an electronic horse racing simulator from the National Horseracing Museum will let people experience how it feels being a jockey.
Channel 4 Racing will also have its cameras picking up the action at one of its first televised events in 2013.
“All eyes will be on Warwick Racecourse on Saturday so why not join us for a truly memorable afternoon,” added Williams.
