FLIGHTS from Birmingham Airport to New York have been cancelled.

Passengers have been hit by disruption as United Airlines cancelled its daily flight to Newark Airport yesterday and today (Tuesday) due to the bad weather in the US.

Storms have battered the east coast as Hurricane Sandy reached New York which has forced thousands of people to leave their homes.

Passengers booked onto the cancelled flights have been asked to contact their airline to rebook.

A spokeswoman for Birmingham Airport said she understood United Airlines had contacted passengers in advance to inform them of the cancellations.
