HUNDREDS of mourners celebrated the 'inspirational' life of Knowle's double Olympic medallist Tommy Godwin at a memorial service in the village church.

Mr Godwin passed away on November 3 at the Marie Curie hospice in Solihull at the age of 91.

And his friends and family paid emotional tribute to his life at Tuesday's ((November 20) service.

The sporting inspiration won two bronze medals at the London 1948 games and spent his life involved with his beloved cycling.

He managed the British cycling squad at the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo, was president of the British Cycling Federation and founded the Birmingham RCC.

In later years Tommy also ran a bike shop in Kings Heath, passing on his love of cycling to everyone who walked through the door as well as visiting schools and community groups to share his passion for the sport.
