THE outdoors has been the inspiration for children at Sharmans Cross Junior School.
Over the last year the school has developed an outdoor learning area where pupils have been able to build dens and make fires as well as take part in their regular lessons.
And the learning area has now been officially opened.
It includes a pond area which was improved as part of a Jaguar Land Rover community project while the school won funding from Eon to create a tyre park with an outdoor classroom area.
There is also an assault course which will be used for team building exercises such as blindfold relays.
A spokeswoman for the school said: "It's thanks to parents' support that we've been able to link with companies in the community.
"The children love the outdoor learning area and enjoy exploring it whether it's a beautiful day or torrential rain."
