SOLIHULL'S War Memorial was the venue for the launch of this year's Poppy Appeal Campaign.

Generous Silhillians broke records once again last year, donating over £61,000 to provide financial, social and emotional support to the millions of men and women who have served or are currently serving in the British Armed Forces.

And organisers of this year's appeal are hoping that generosity will continue.

Dave Mouzer, Chairman of the Solihull Royal British Legion said: “I would like to thank the people of Solihull for their generosity over they years and hope that this year’s appeal will raise the vital funds that are needed to help the people who rely on the Royal British Legion for support."

As well as selling poppies, the Legion will be holding special fundraising events throughout October and November.

There will be a Poppy Night with live music from the Sharmanaires Big Band on Thursday, October 25 from 8.15pm and on Sunday, October 28 the Frog Island Jazz Band will play traditional jazz from 1pm.

Both of these events will take place at the Legion’s Solihull headquarters on Union Road and will cost £5.

There will also be another Poppy Night on Saturday, November 10 at the Solihull Methodist Community Hall featuring live music from the AD Concert Band.

The event starts at 7.30pm and entry is £5.

There will also be a display of ex-military vehicles in Mell Square on the Saturdays of November 3 and 10.

Anyone wishing to find out more about becoming a Poppy Appeal helper should contact Sonia Mouzer on 0121 603 6266.
