Traveller barn demolished

A BARN on land adjoining a controversial travellers sites has been demolished.

The barn on Eaves Green Lane in Meriden is owned by one of the travellers and had to be taken down following an appeal.

Campaign group RAID called for action to be taken as the barn was not being used for legitimate agricultural purposes but for unlawful scrap dealing and car sales.

David McGrath, chairman of RAID, said: "We will continue to stand up to lawbreakers and will not rest until the adjoining land is restored and re-instated to green belt.

"We now need Solihull Council to be as committed to ensure that the land is vacated and restored by March 31st next year.

"When we have achieved these aims our protest will cease."
