TWO BROTHERS have been jailed for firearms offences following an incident in Castle Vale last year in which one man was threatened with a gun and another was injured by a knife.
Richard Jones, 30, and his brother Daryl Jones, 22, were sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court after pleading guilty to firearms offences on April 30.
Richard was sentenced to five years in prison after admitting possession of a prohibited firearm, namely a Ruger 22 assault rifle and possession of an offensive weapon (knife).
Daryl Jones was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
An investigation was launched after an incident on July 24, 2011 in Cosford Crescent, Castle Vale, where two offenders smashed the windows of a flat, threatened one man with a sawn-off shotgun and injured another man with a knife.
Officers investigating the incident carried out a firearms warrant at an address in Tangmere Drive, Castle Vale and recovered a Ruger 22 assault rifle and over 200 shotgun cartridges.
DC Rob Gough from Force CID said: "Any day we take a firearm off the street is a good day.
“We have taken two dangerous offenders off the streets and we will be working with local housing and neighbourhood teams to address the issues this has raised.”
