A FAYRE was held in the parish of St Alphege at the weekend.

Stalls selling a variety of gifts and goodies were set up on the High Street on Saturday (April 21) for a fayre which marked the feast day of St. Alphege, the former monk who became Archbishop of Canterbury in 1006.

He was canonised after being murdered by his Viking captors for refusing to pay his own ransom at the expense of his poor tenants.

During the day a group staged a re-enactment of the martyrdom of St Alphege while there were further events in and around the church.

And special services were held at the church on Sunday (April 22) to mark the occasion.
