BOROUGH Paralympic hopeful Glenn Scott will be one of the Torchbearers carrying the flame through Earlswood on 1 July.

Glenn, 19, was born with Talipes (club feet) and had to undergo operations including the removal of his ankle bones to correct the position of his feet.

He took up sprinting three years ago and now competes in national and international disabled races in both 100m and 200m races.

He has an International Paralympic Committee classification of T43 - the same as South African Paralympian Oscar Pistorius - and is Junior National champion at both 100m and 200m.

He is ranked 7th in the world, has competed for his country in the UK School Games, was invited to compete as a Guest at the Final Diamond League meeting in Brussels in 2010 and hopes to compete for Great Britain at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio.

Off the track, Glenn does voluntary coaching at an athletics club for disabled children in Bromsgrove and has raised more than £3,000 for a charity that his surgeon set up for underprivileged children in Sierra Leone, for which Glenn is also an ambassador.

Glenn said: “Being chosen as one of the Torchbearers is an absolute dream come true. Having the chance to hold the Flame and be part of something as massive as the Olympics is really special – to be honest I didn’t even dream of being picked. It’s amazing and I’m really excited."
