THE van driver who died when his vehicle fell from a bridge onto the M42 has been named.
James Mcaleenan, 35, from Shard End died in hospital following the incident on Monday, March 19.
He leaves behind his wife Becky and three and a half year old son Robin.
In a statement Mr Mcaleenan's family said they are devastated.
"James was a wonderful soul mate to his wife Becky and a fantastic daddy to his son Robin.
"His sudden and unexpected loss leaves an enormous void in the lives of his immediate family. He had a quiet and unassuming personality that avoided being in the limelight; however it is fair to say that these characteristics did not prevent him having an immense impact on those he met.
"He was well liked and respected by everyone who came into contact with him, he was always willing to help others, was sensitive to their needs, and nothing was too much trouble.
"He was hard working and resolute in facing up to life's challenges with the sole aim of supporting and providing for his family, he did all of this with a healthy dose of good humour.
"Naturally we as a family are devastated at the loss of James, but are thankful that no one else suffered any significant injuries in this collision.
"We would like to thank the other motorists that came to James's aid and provided help to him at the scene, the emergency services who dealt with the aftermath of the collision and who are conducting the collision investigation, the medical team at the hospital who battled to keep James with us and everyone else who has provided support to us as a family over the last few days.
"James will be severely missed and although he has now gone from us, he will definitely not be forgotten by those who knew him. R.I.P. "
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident which happened at 1.45pm.
The van driven by Mr Mcaleenan crashed through barriers on the A452 Coleshill island and fell onto the M42 where it collided with a lorry and car.
