DEPUTY Prime Minister Nick Clegg saw for himself the good work being done at a Solihull school thanks to the Government's Pupil Premium.

The Lib Dem leader - and Solihull's Lib Dem MP Lorely Burt - dropped in to meet pupils at Peterbrook Primary School.

The school has benefited to the tune of £26,840 from the Pupil Premium - money which is used to help disadvantaged children.

And at Peterbrook that money has been used to, among other things, provide a child and family support worker to enhance the lives of those disadvantaged children.

During his visit Mr Clegg enjoyed a private chat with the school's headteacher and the child and family support worker before a tour of all the facilities and taking part in a Q&A session with Year 3 pupils who asked him a variety of questions including when he was young what did he want to be when he grew up and what were his school reports like.

Explorer was the answer to the first question and some good, some not so good was the answer to the second.

On the day of the visit the school was holding a charity day to raise money for the Dogs Trust - and the Deputy PM dipped into his pocket to snap up a few of the cakes on sale before turning the tables and selling some of the cakes to staff and pupils to help the cause.

Speaking after the visit Lorely said: “I was delighted to welcome Nick Clegg to Peterbrook School today.

“I was blown away when I saw how the school were using the money to support the children and further their aspirations.

Mr Clegg added: "I enjoyed every second of my visit to Peterbrook.

"The kids were happy and enthusiastic and they clearly love the school.
