Pryce stars for Robins

Les James Challenge Cup Round Three

A STUNNING Mykey Pryce hat-trick sent Knowle into the last eight of the Challenge Cup and set up a date at Midland Combination Division One rivals Archdale ‘73 on February 11.

As well as Pryce’s impressive display another highlight for the Robins was the performance of young debutant Rhys Wigman between the sticks.

Henley made the brighter start, pinning Knowle in their own half for long periods, and forced a good save out of Wigman when he tipped a free kick over the bar. Wigman showed good handling in difficult conditions and the one time he was beaten he was relieved to see the ball come back off the bar.

Despite spending much of the first half on the back foot, Knowle went in ahead at the interval thanks to Pryce’s strike five minutes before the break, finishing well with his left foot after showing good pace to escape the defence.

A clumsy foul led to Henley being awarded a penalty early in the second half from which they equalised but Knowle responded well and increased the pressure.

Henley’s keeper made a number of fine saves to frustrate the Robins but he was finally beaten for a second time when Pryce was given too much space in the box and he stroked the ball into the bottom corner.

A tremendous Wigman save protected the hosts’ narrow advantage before Pryce’s third made the game safe, scoring after good work from substitute Astley.

Third placed Knowle return to league action on Saturday when they visit second placed Blackwood (2pm).
