SOLIHULL CC's Jack Ravenscroft has been crowned UK National Cyclo-Cross champion.
Ravenscroft secured the best result of his already glittering career at the u16 Championship race in Ipswich at the weekend.
In what proved to be a frenetic 30-minute dash, Ravenscroft dominated from the gun.
He made an explosive start before putting in a huge effort going past the pits on the opening lap as chaos ensued behind him as riders tried to cut across the gap.
Gradually he extended his lead as he went from six seconds ahead to 15 and 25 over the first three laps.
Even when he eased off the gas on the last lap, taking no risks on corners, the field had expanded so much energy trying to catch him that he had enough time to lift both arms in the air and enjoy his celebration on the line.
Ravenscroft's team-mate Danny Fox rode bravely with an injured wrist which prevented him from really pulling on the handlebars - crucial in muddy conditions.
Fox was disappointed to have to settle for a top ten finish after a series of one-two finishes with Ravenscroft throughout the season but he console himself in the knowledge he is one of the best riders in the country.
For Ravenscroft it is another stepping stone towards potential professional status, particularly after gaining selection to the recent Team GB Olympic Development camp.
He is back in action on Sunday in Shrewsbury in the final race of the National Trophy Series - a competition in which he has an unassailable lead.
For Solihull CC, Ravenscroft's triumph comes just four months after fellow rider Dannielle Khan clinched the u16 title at the National Track Championships at the Manchester Veldodrome.
