Bournville 43 Camp Hill 10
Midlands One West
A CLOSELY fought first half gave no indication as to what was in store for Camps during the second half on Saturday as they ended up well beaten at Bournville.
Fly half Alex Warner kicked the hosts into a fifth minute lead with a penalty but they held the advantage for just two minutes.
Having taken a quick tap penalty from 30m out, Camps' full back Ian Briggs was surprised, but delighted, to collect a rebound of his own kick ahead to run in and score under the posts before converting himself.
The action was well-shared with the visitors performing particularly well in the line-out but the next points went to the home side when Paul Cox collected on halfway and kicked a drop goal.
Briggs then missed a penalty from long distance but Warner's aim was true as he put Bournville two points ahead.
Just before the 30 minute mark another 50m attempt was successful for the visitors and it seemed as though they may carry a single point lead into the break.
But Bournville had other ideas and during injury time in the first half and despite what appeared to be a knock-on, lock Robert Griffin crossed for Warner to convert.
Clearly lifted by the late first half score, Bournville looked far more dangerous in the second half and despite defending bravely, Camps were unable to keep out tries from right wing Chris Humphrey and prop Ian Coles as Bournville opened up a 26-10 advantage.
There was no letting up from the home side as Warner converted a penalty try before Humphrey's second try was followed by one from left wing Dan Barratt.
In the first of two successive home matches, Camps entertain Bedworth on Saturday (2.15pm).
