Camp Hill 32 Bedworth 17
Midlands One West
CAMPS overcame a tough test against bottom of the table Bedworth on Saturday to move themselves up to tenth place in the table with a bonus point victory.
The home side struck first when centre Ian Briggs sent over a fifth minute penalty on a cold day which resulted in both sides making plenty of handling errors.
Bedworth's fly half Alan Foster levelled matters with a penalty of his own before Briggs was presented with a second opportunity but he just missed the target on this occasion.
The only try of the first half went Camps' way when Simon Edwards' invasive run from his own half took him to the line and Briggs converted to make it 10-3 at the interval.
Clear opportunities were at a premium at the start of the second half but a series of penalties allowed Bedworth to gain ground and prop Paul Hurst dived over for a try converted by Foster that made it 10-10.
The game was now there for the taking but suddenly Camps showed the crowd some real quality which turned the game on its head.
A long pass from the right from Edwards began an intrusive move through the middle before fly half Jim Oliver released left wing Marc Bradshaw at speed to break the line in the corner.
Briggs was unable to convert but he did add a penalty soon afterwards to extend the advantage to 18-10.
It took just two minutes for the lead to be stretched further when a superb passing move sent Richard Roberts towards the line and when he was stopped just short, Edwards was on hand to claim his eighth try of the season, Briggs improved the score.
As full time approached scrum half Luke Loveridge fed Oliver who set off on a mazy run to touch down a fine individual score with Briggs again converting.
Bedworth were awarded a penalty try deep into stoppage time which Foster converted but Camps' fifth success of the campaign was safely secured by that stage.
Saturday sees Camps at home again when ninth placed Whitchurch are the visitors (2.15pm).
