Brilliant Beswick boosts Moors

RYAN Beswick's hat-trick helped guide Moors to a thrilling victory at Damson Park on Saturday afternoon in what proved to be an action-packed contest.

Seeking revenge for their defeat in the reverse fixture on the opening day of the season, Marcus Bignot's men started well and took the lead in the fifth minute when Beswick ran at the defence before firing home.

The lead was doubled a minute before the break when Beswick's attempted cross beat Michael Emery in the visitors' goal and found its way into the net.

Luke Waterfall gave Gainsborough hope at the start of the second half when turning home from a corner but the two-goal advantage was quickly restored when Beswick completed his treble from the penalty spot.

Gavin Cowan was the man to bring Beswick down in the box and the visitors' task was made even more difficult when he was dismissed for the offence.

Trinity were then awarded a penalty of their own but Leon Mettam saw his effort saved by home stopper Jas Singh who is enjoying another fantastic season.

Danny Spencer headed home Moors' fourth six minutes later when connecting with Robbie Thompson-Brown's corner and Lee Morris made it five shortly before seeing another effort disallowed.

Gainsborough pulled two goals back in the closing stages through Mettam and Williams to give the scoreline a flattering look on their part but the home side deservedly picked up the three points as the final whistle was blown.

Moors travel to bottom of the table Eastwood on Saturday and will bid to put more distance between themselves and the relegation zone of which they currently sit five points clear.
