THERE was no derby delight for Barons on Sunday as they failed to build on a strong end to 2011 when taking to the ice for the first time in 2012.

Titans went ahead after four minutes in what proved to be an evenly matched period but a second for the away side just before the end saw them in control heading into the second.

Barons’ rusty start continued as they clearly lacked sharpness after the Christmas break.

Telford extended their lead further midway through the period with two goals in quick succession to make it 4-0.

A stunning final minute of the period gave Barons hope though as two goals by Richard Slater and a third from Rob Eley brought the deficit down to one.

That was to be as good as it got for the hosts though as Telford regrouped and netted twice at the start of the third period to take control again.

Two powerplay goals then put the result beyond doubt and with Barons’ heads having dropped, they scored twice more to complete a comfortable success.

Barons will bid to regroup in time for this weekend’s away double header which sees them visit Trafford Metros on Saturday and Whitley Warriors on Sunday. The coach to Trafford departs at 1.30pm on Saturday and the coach to Whitley leaves at 11.30am on Sunday, both costing £10 per person.
