A HIT and run killer has been jailed for almost four years after being found guilty of causing the death Solihull man Adam Collard last year.
Darren Daniels, from Smithswood, was arrested on August 30 last year, hours after the car he was driving had hit pedestrian Adam Collard near to the junction of Sheaf Lane and Horse Shoes Lane in Sheldon.
The 24-year-old victim had just got out of a taxi and was crossing the road at around 1.15am when he was knocked down by Daniels' Volkswagon Passat.
The 38-year-old driver failed to stop at the scene but the car was found abandoned about five miles away in Wolseley Close, Smithswood. Daniels was arrested later the same day.
Adam sustained multiple injuries and was taken to Heartlands Hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
Following the initial arrest West Midlands Collision Investigation Unit conducted a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the collision and Daniels was subsequently charged with Causing Death by Dangerous Driving and Perverting the Course of Justice, after initially claiming the car had been sold.
After pleading guilty to the charges at an earlier hearing, Daniels appeared before Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday (January 25) where he was sentenced to three years and nine months imprisonment.
Speaking after the hearing, Adam's mother, Angela Collard, gave her reaction to the case.
She said: "Darren Daniels, has been given a three year, nine month sentence for killing my son, Adam, whilst speeding. "This incident has passed me a life sentence - a life without my beautiful, much loved son.
"People need to be aware that speed kills and shatters the lives of those left behind.
"There are no winners here, everyone has lost something."
