WEST Midlands Ambulance Service was getting three 999 calls every minute as the region celebrated the turn of the year.
They took 1,724 calls across the region between 8pm on New Year's Eve and 5am on New Year's Day, mainly for drink-related incidents at bars and clubs with most people treated for cuts and head wounds as a result of assaults or trips and falls.
Last year there were 2,050 calls for an ambulance over the same time.
Chief Executive Anthony Marsh said: "Once again our staff did a fantastic job to ensure the safety of everyone in the West Midlands, including those visiting our area to celebrate the New Year."
