MEMBERS of Solihull Royal British legion were joined by Solihull's Mayor Irene Chamberlain at the St Alphege War Memorial to launch this year's Poppy Appeal.
Each year, the Poppy Appeal raises a huge amount of money so that the Royal British Legion can continue to support soldiers, veterans and their dependants.
The pople of Solihull raised an amazing £53,438 for the Poppy Appeal last year - more than anywhere else across the region.
And organiser are hoping to raise yet more still this year to support war veterans old and young.
Poppies will be on sale across the borough from Saturday, October 29 and the Solihull branch of the Legion will also be hosting a number of events to bolster the fundraising efforts.
Dave Mouzer, Branch Chairman, Solihull Royal British Legion, said: “I would like to thank the people of Solihull for their generosity over the years and hope that this year’s appeal will raise the vital funds that are needed to help the people who rely on the Royal British Legion for support.
“Each year, an increasing amount of people approach the Royal British Legion for help and we work tirelessly to ensure that we can offer all the support they need to them and to their families. I would encourage all Silhillians to buy a poppy this year.”
The Royal British Legion is always in need of volunteers to help sell poppies. If you are interested in helping out on days and at times to suit you, please contact Sonia Mouzer on 0121 603 6266.
* As well as selling poppies, Solihull Royal British Legion will be hosting a special display of ex-military vehicles in Mell Square on Saturday, November 5 and 12
There will also be a Poppy Night with live music from the Shamanariers Big Band on Thursday, November 24, from 8.15pm at the Solihull Royal British Legion Headquarters on Union Road.
