TWO men have died, one after suffering horrific injuries, including his arm being ripped from his body, in a terrifying crash between a car and a bus on a busy main road in Castle Bromwich.
A man was yesterday (Wednesday) arrested over the deaths.
The backseat passenger, a man thought to be in his 20s, was declared dead by medics who raced to the scene, at Newport Road, at 6.40pm Tuesday evening.
The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, died later in hospital after he suffered serious head and chest injuries. One of his arms had been ripped from his body.
The driver of the bus, a man, was treated by medics but was not hospitalised.
Several passengers in the bus also suffered minor injuries.
Three ambulances, a community first responder, an incident support officer, a senior paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford with a BASICS emergency doctor on board, attended the scene.
"Crews arrived to find a car and a bus which had been involved in a significant collision.
"The rear passenger in the car, a man, sustained fatal injuries in the crash," a West Midland Ambulance Service spokesman said.
They said the driver suffered 'significant head and chest injuries' whilst one of his arms was 'amputated' in the crash.
A police spokesman confirmed the man had died later of his injuries.
"The doctor immediately anaesthetised the man to stabilise his serious condition. Crews continued vital emergency treatment whilst working closely with the fire service to extricate him from the car," he said.
"The man was immobilised with a neck collar and spinal board before being transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
"The doctor travelled in the ambulance with paramedics to continue treatment on route. Medics were pre-alerted to the arrival of the man who was said to be in a serious condition at the time."
Anyone with information about the crash has been urged to call West Midlands Police.
