A SOLIHULL magistrate has sentenced himself to a gruelling 14 day cycle ride to raise vital cash to help fight Motor Neurone Disease.
Rob Turner, from Aston Cantlow near Stratford, is joining a 22-strong party cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats on May 17 in aid of Motor Neurone Disease Association.
The 65-year-old has been gearing up for the 1,015 mile trip for the last six months.
Mr Turner, who has been a member of Solihull Cycling Club for four years, told the Observer he was looking forward to the physical and mental challenge of the trip and raising money for a
charity close to his heart.
"Two members of the cycling club died from Motor Neurones between two and three years and a magistrate friend was diagnosed last August and is already in a wheelchair and going down fast.
"I am reasonably confident, its not a race its just doing a certain amount of miles a day. The shortest days are the first two days but are the hilliest. It ranges from 55 miles to 85 and we have no rest days so its just a case of getting going each morning."
Motor Neurone Disease Association provides care and support to people with the disease and to those who care for them. It also funds and promotes research into Motor Neurone Disease.
