SOLIHULL Hospital’s patients and Coronary Rehabilitation Group are enjoying the benefits of a generous donation from a borough charity.
The £2,500 cash gift from the Solihull Lions has resulted in the purchase of new static bikes for the Physiotherapy Department’s gym.
The bikes will be used by patients across the Hospital, as well as cardiac out-patients who attend twice weekly exercise sessions at the gym.
Head of Physiotherapy at Solihull Hospital, Sarah Bazin, hosted a tea party to thank the Lions for their support, which was attended by the Mayor of Solihull, Coun. Gary Allport and his wife Gayle, as well as members of the Coronary Rehabilitation Group.
Sarah Bazin said: “We are so grateful to the Lions for this generous donation of this potentially life-saving equipment. The Lions do such wonderful work, as do our very own Coronary Rehab Group who have been instrumental in the makeover of the gym.
"All members choose to pay one pound to attend a session in the gym and this money has been used to buy some of the other refreshed equipment, such as new tread mills and long sitting bikes.”
Solihull’s Coronary Rehabilitation Group has been running for 16 years and benefits former patients not only by getting them exercising, but by providing peer group support. Members exercise, share health stories and offer emotional support to each other after illnesses such as heart attacks and stroke.
President of the Solihull Lions, Hardip Ubhi, said: “We decide on a monthly basis where our funds should be donated, and considered the Solihull Hospital’s gym to be a more than worthy cause. The Physiotherapy service, and the benefit which patients derive from being part of the evening Coronary Rehabilitation Group, should justly be supported.”
The even better news is that the old gym equipment will not be going to waste. It has been kindly delivered to the Physiotherapy Department at Heartlands Hospital, by Coronary Rehabilitation Group member, Mick Naylor, for use there.
