Best foot forward for charity

A SOLIHULL man has raised hundreds of pounds for an Alzheimer's charity after losing his mother-in-law to the destructive disease.
Phil Stoakes, a 51-year-old employment coach at Pertemps People Development Group, took part in a 10k road race in Lincoln to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society.
Family, friends and colleagues pitched together to collect £130 and then this sum was match-funded by PPDG, bringing the total up to £260.
“My wife’s mother passed away some years ago because of Alzheimer’s and the memories are still quite vivid in terms of the effects of the illness on her and what the rest of the family had to go through," said Phil.
"It was a very difficult time because the person you have known for many years as part of the family suddenly changes into someone you don’t recognise.
“I chose to support the charity because it is important that people with the disease, and their families who often suffer a great deal of heartache, get all the support they can."
The Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading care and research charity for people with dementia and those who care for them. There are 700,000 people with dementia in the UK with numbers set to rise to one million by 2025.
