  • Kooks are back with their second brilliant album

    Luke Hamer

    25 April 2008

FOLLOWING on from their hugely successful debut album, Inside In/Inside Out, The Kooks are back with their brilliant second offering, Konk.
The Brighton four piece have returned with a new set up after founder member and bassist Max Rafferty left the band earlier this year and was replaced with Dan Logan.
Named after the Ray Davies' Konk studio in London, the record sees the band expand their repertoire to add melody based songs to their distinctive rock sound.
See the Sun kicks starts the album with a slow intro but soon blasts off into a classic Kooks track with Pritchard belting it out during a live set.
The first single from the album, Always Where I Need To Be, picks up from where Inside In/Inside Out left off with a foot tapping guitar riff as lead singer Luke Pritchard's vocals fit effortlessly over the top to create another catchy Kooks chorus.
Unfamiliar ground is covered in the slow paced Shine On as Pritchard leaves behind his usual sound for a calmer approach to this tune as he harmonises with it.
Do You Wanna gets you singing at the top of your voice while Sway cresendos to an exhausting climax before gently bringing you back down.
Konk is available now on Virgin Records.
The Kooks are playing at Birmingham Academy on Sunday (April 27).
